William MacLeod Raine (1871-1954) was a British-American novelist, best known for his Western fiction. He was born in London, but emigrated to the United States at the age of 19. After working as a cowboy and a rancher, he began writing fiction, with his first novel, "A Texas Ranger," being published in 1910. He went on to write over 80 novels, primarily set in the American West, with many featuring cowboy and lawman heroes. His most famous series of novels is the "Buck Duane" series. Raine's writing was highly popular during his lifetime and his works were translated into many languages. He died in 1954 in California.
