Isabella Beeton Biography

Isabella Beeton was an English writer and the author of "Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management," published in 1861. Born on March 14, 1836, she was the daughter of a London publisher and grew up in a wealthy household. She married publisher Samuel Orchart Beeton in 1856 and began writing articles for his magazines, including "The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine."

In 1861, she published "Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management," which became an instant success and became the definitive guide to Victorian-era household management. The book covered a wide range of topics, from cooking and housekeeping to childcare and health advice. It sold over 60,000 copies in its first year and was reprinted several times.

Isabella Beeton died on February 6, 1865, at the age of 28 from puerperal fever after giving birth to her fourth child. Despite her short life, her book remains an enduring legacy and is still widely regarded as a classic reference guide for homemakers.
