Frederick Winslow Taylor Biography
Frederick Winslow Taylor (1856-1915) was an American mechanical engineer and management consultant, known as the "father of scientific management." He was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania and began his career as a machinist before studying mechanical engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. After working in various manufacturing plants, he became interested in improving industrial efficiency and productivity. In 1881, he published his landmark book "The Principles of Scientific Management," which outlined his theories on how to optimize industrial processes through time and motion studies, standardization, and division of labor. He also advocated for the use of incentives to motivate workers. Taylor's ideas had a significant impact on manufacturing and management practices in the United States and Europe. He died in 1915 in Philadelphia.
