Zona Gale Biography

Zona Gale was an American novelist, playwright, and journalist from Wisconsin. She was born on August 26, 1874, in Portage, Wisconsin, and died on December 27, 1938. Gale attended the University of Wisconsin and later became a journalist, writing for newspapers in Milwaukee and New York City.

In 1908, Gale published her first novel, "Friendship Village," which was followed by several other novels and plays. She became well known for her plays, many of which were produced on Broadway and in regional theater. In 1921, Gale's play "Miss Lulu Bett" was produced on Broadway and won the Pulitzer Prize for drama.

Gale was also a suffragist and a feminist, and her work often explored themes of women's rights and gender roles. She was a member of the National Woman's Party and the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis.

Throughout her career, Gale was highly respected by her peers and was honored with several awards and accolades for her contributions to literature and her work in social causes. Despite her death in 1938, her work is still studied and performed today.
