Walter Bagehot Biography

Walter Bagehot (1826-1877) was a British journalist, economist, and political commentator. He was born in Langport, Somerset, England, and was educated at University College London and Cambridge. Bagehot began his career as a journalist, writing for various publications, including The Economist, which he eventually became editor of in 1861. He is known for his influential works on economics and politics, including "The English Constitution" (1867) and "Lombard Street" (1873). He is considered one of the leading economic thinkers of his time, and his ideas continue to be studied and debated today. Bagehot died in 1877, at the age of 51, in Langport, Somerset.
