Jules Verne was a French novelist, poet, and playwright, who lived from 1828 to 1905. He is best known for his adventure novels, such as 'A Journey to the Center of the Earth', 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea', and 'Around the World in Eighty Days.' These novels are considered to be some of the earliest examples of science fiction and are known for their vivid descriptions of scientific and technological advancements of the time.

Verne was born in Nantes, France and was educated at the Lycée Royal in Nantes and later in Paris. He began writing at an early age, and his first novel, 'Five Weeks in a Balloon' was published in 1863. This was followed by a series of successful adventure novels, many of which were set in exotic locations and featured new technologies such as submarines and airships.

Verne's work is credited with popularizing the genre of science fiction and inspiring many later writers in the field. He is considered to be one of the most translated authors in the world and his books have been adapted into numerous films, TV shows and stage productions. He died in Amiens, France in 1905.
