Born in London, Isabella was the eldest of four children. After her father's death, her mother remarried, and Isabella became instrumental in managing a large household with numerous siblings and step-siblings. She received her education in Islington and later in Heidelberg, Germany, where she became proficient in French and German and developed skills in pastry-making.

In 1856, Isabella married Samuel Orchart Beeton, a prominent publisher.
