Henri Barbusse Biography

Henri Barbusse was a French novelist and journalist born on May 17, 1873 in Asnières-sur-Seine, France. He was a well-known writer and political activist who is best remembered for his novel, "Under Fire" (Le Feu), which was published in 1916. The novel is a vivid and haunting depiction of the horrors of World War I, and it was a critical and commercial success, earning Barbusse international recognition.

Barbusse was also a committed socialist and joined the French Socialist Party in 1907. He was a vocal opponent of the war and was a founding member of the anti-war movement, the International Association of Writers for the Defense of Culture. He used his writing to raise awareness about the devastating impact of the war on the soldiers and civilians caught in its crossfire.

In 1935, Barbusse died of pneumonia in Moscow, Russia, where he had gone to receive treatment for tuberculosis. He is remembered as a powerful voice against war and social injustice and his legacy continues to inspire writers and activists around the world.
