George A. Birmingham Biography

George A. Birmingham was the pen name of James Owen Hannay, an Irish Anglican clergyman and author, born on July 16, 1865, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was educated at Haileybury and Trinity College, Dublin, where he obtained a degree in classics.

After completing his studies, he became a curate in various parishes in Ireland before being appointed rector of Finglas, Dublin, in 1904. However, he is best known for his literary career, which began with the publication of his first novel, The Seething Pot, in 1904.

Over the next two decades, he wrote over 50 books, including novels, plays, and non-fiction works, many of which were popular with the reading public. His writing often reflected his conservative Anglican views and his love for Ireland.

During World War I, he served as a chaplain in the British Army, which inspired some of his later works. After the war, he continued to write and was a regular contributor to the Irish Times and other newspapers.

George A. Birmingham died on February 2, 1950, in Dublin, Ireland, at the age of 84.
