Frederic Remington Biography
Frederic Remington was an American painter, sculptor, and illustrator best known for his depictions of the American West. Born in 1861 in Canton, New York, Remington was raised in a family of artists and was heavily influenced by his father's work as an engraver. He attended Yale University for two years before leaving to study art in France and Italy. After returning to the United States, Remington began to create illustrations for magazines such as Harper's Weekly and Collier's, depicting the life and landscapes of the American West.
Throughout his career, Remington was praised for his realistic and romantic depictions of the American West, capturing the spirit of the frontier and the rugged terrain of the region. His works include paintings, sculptures, and illustrations of cowboys, Native Americans, and western landscapes. Remington's work remains widely celebrated and has been widely reproduced, making him one of the most recognizable American artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He died in 1909 in Ridgefield, Connecticut, at the age of 48.
