Emily Lawless Biography
Emily Lawless (1845-1913) was an Irish author and feminist. She was born in County Kildare, Ireland, and was the daughter of a prominent landowner. She was educated at home by private tutors and was fluent in French and German. Her literary career began in her late teens with the publication of her first novel, "Hurst of Hurstcote." She wrote several novels throughout her life, many of which dealt with the issues facing women in Ireland. She was also an advocate for women's rights, and was a member of the Women's National Association. She died in 1913 in County Kildare.
