Anna Chapin Ray Biography

Anna Chapin Ray (1865-1945) was an American author, journalist, and playwright. She was born in New York City and grew up in Brooklyn, where her father worked as a newspaper editor. Ray attended Wellesley College, where she studied literature and began writing for the student newspaper.

After graduating, Ray worked as a journalist, writing for several newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times and the Brooklyn Eagle. She also wrote several novels and plays, many of which were popular with readers and critics alike.

Ray is perhaps best known for her "Teddy" series of books, which follow the adventures of a young girl named Teddy and her friends. The first book in the series, "Teddy: Her Book," was published in 1901 and was an immediate success. Ray went on to write several more books in the series, including "Teddy: Her Daughter" and "Teddy: Her Knight."

In addition to her writing, Ray was active in the women's suffrage movement and was a member of several women's clubs and organizations. She died in 1945 in New York City at the age of 80.
