André Norton was an American science fiction author who is best known for her contributions to the genre during the mid-20th century. She was born on January 24, 1917, in New York City and began writing at a young age.
Norton's early work focused on romance novels and westerns, but she quickly became interested in science fiction after reading H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine." She began writing her own stories in the genre and published her first novel, "Robot," in 1952.
