Susan Glaspell Biography

Susan Glaspell (1876-1948) was an American playwright, actress, and journalist. She was born in Davenport, Iowa and began her career as a journalist, working for several newspapers in the Midwest. In the early 1900s, she moved to New York City and began writing plays. Her first play, "Trifles," was produced in 1916 and was a critical and commercial success. She went on to write several more plays, including "The Verge," "The Outside," and "Alison's House," which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1931. Glaspell was also a member of the Provincetown Players, an influential theater group in the early 20th century. In addition to her plays, she wrote several novels and short stories. Glaspell died in 1948 in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
