Robert Benchley Biography

Robert Benchley (1889-1945) was an American humorist, actor, and writer, best known for his witty and humorous essays and short stories. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, and began his career as a newspaper reporter before moving to New York City to pursue a career in writing. He quickly made a name for himself as a wit and humorist, and his essays and short stories were published in popular magazines such as The New Yorker and Vanity Fair. Benchley also worked as a playwright and actor, and appeared in several films, including "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and "The Mayor of 44th Street." He was a member of the Algonquin Round Table, a group of writers, actors, and critics who met regularly at the Algonquin Hotel in New York City, and was known for his quick wit and clever humor. Benchley died in 1945 in New York City.
