Norman Douglas Biography

Norman Douglas (1868-1952) was a British writer and traveler, known for his novels, travel writing, and essays. He was born in Thüringen, Austria and raised in Scotland. He spent much of his life traveling and living in various parts of Europe and Africa. He wrote his first novel, "South Wind," in 1917, which was a huge success and established him as a prominent writer of his time. His other notable works include "Old Calabria" (1915) and "Fountains in the Sand" (1912) . He was also known for his essays and articles on travel, culture and literature, many of which were published in magazines and newspapers. He died in Capri, Italy in 1952.
