Lester Del Rey Biography

Lester Del Rey (1915-1993) was an American science fiction author, editor, and publisher. He was born in New York City and began writing science fiction stories in the 1930s. He published his first story, "The Faithful," in Astounding Science Fiction in 1935.

Del Rey went on to write many popular science fiction novels, including "The Stations of the Tide," "Forgotten Planet," and "Stepsons of Terra." He also edited a number of science fiction anthologies, including "The Best of Science Fiction" and "The Annual World's Best SF."

In addition to writing and editing, Del Rey was also involved in the science fiction publishing industry. He worked as an editor at Ballantine Books, where he helped launch the Ballantine Adult Fantasy series. He also co-founded Del Rey Books, a science fiction and fantasy imprint of Ballantine.

Del Rey received many accolades for his contributions to the science fiction genre, including the Hugo Award for Best Editor in 1971 and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Grand Master Award in 1981. He passed away in 1993, leaving behind a legacy of classic science fiction stories and a lasting impact on the science fiction community.
