Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) was a Norwegian playwright and poet considered to be one of the most important figures in modern drama. He was born in Skien, Norway and began his career as a playwright in the 1850s, but it wasn't until the publication of "A Doll's House" in 1879 that he gained international recognition.

Ibsen's plays often dealt with social and political issues, such as gender roles and the oppression of women. His work also explored the psychological and emotional states of his characters, making him one of the first playwrights to introduce realism into drama.

Some of Ibsen's other notable plays include "Hedda Gabler," "Ghosts," "An Enemy of the People," and "The Master Builder." His influence on modern theatre and drama is widely acknowledged, and his plays continue to be performed and adapted around the world.

Ibsen died in 1906 in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway.
