E.W. Hornung Biography
E.W. Hornung (1866-1921) was an English author and poet, best known for his detective fiction series featuring the character of A.J. Raffles. He was born in London and was the brother-in-law of Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes. Hornung began writing in the 1890s and published his first novel, "A Thief in the Night," in 1892. He then went on to write the Raffles series, featuring a gentleman thief as the protagonist, beginning with "The Amateur Cracksman" in 1898. The series was well-received and made Hornung a popular author. He also wrote several other novels, including "The Black Mask" and "The Crime Doctor." Hornung died in 1921 in London.
