Alfred Ollivant Biography
Alfred Ollivant (1874-1927) was an English author best known for his novel "Bob, Son of Battle" which was published in 1898. Ollivant was born in Manchester, England and grew up in a family of bankers. He attended Manchester Grammar School before going on to study law at Trinity College, Cambridge.
However, Ollivant's true passion was for writing and he began to publish stories and poems while still at university. After completing his studies, he moved to London and worked as a freelance journalist and writer. He published several books of poetry and short stories before achieving great success with "Bob, Son of Battle".
"Bob, Son of Battle" is a classic novel about two rival sheepdogs in the rural Lake District of England. The book was a commercial and critical success, and has been adapted into films, television series, and stage productions. Ollivant went on to publish several more novels, including "Danny" (1913) and "The Gentleman" (1922), but none achieved the same level of success as "Bob, Son of Battle".
Ollivant died in 1927 at the age of 53, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most popular and beloved writers of his time. Despite the success of his most famous work, Ollivant never achieved the literary recognition that some of his contemporaries did, and his books have largely been forgotten by modern readers.
