Agnes Christina Laut Biography

Agnes Christina Laut (1871-1936) was a Canadian author and historian. Born in Ontario, Canada, she grew up in a family of farmers and was educated at home by her mother. Despite her limited formal education, she developed a love for reading and writing at a young age.

Laut began her career as a journalist, writing for local newspapers and magazines. She eventually published her first book, "The Story of the Trapper," in 1902. This book, which tells the story of a trapper in the Canadian wilderness, was a bestseller and established her as a talented author.

Throughout her career, Laut wrote several more books, including "The Lonely Land" (1906), "The Pathfinders" (1910), and "The Conquest of the Great Northwest" (1914). She is best known for her historical works, which focus on the history of Canada and the American West.

In addition to her writing, Laut was an active member of the literary community. She was a founding member of the Canadian Women's Press Club and served as its president for several years. She also served on the board of the Canadian Authors Association.

Laut died in 1936 at the age of 65. She is remembered as one of Canada's most talented and influential authors and historians of her time.
